Julia is proud to turn loss into legacy

April 14, 2023

Stroke Foundation is very close to Julia’s heart. When she was young, her Grandmother had a series of strokes, and a stroke took the life of her beloved Grandfather. This inspired her to want to work at Stroke Foundation.

She says she saw first-hand the pain that stroke causes families, and this inspired her to want to help others by supporting Stroke Foundation. More recently, this same compassion has inspired her to leave a gift in her Will.

For many years, Julia has been donating what she could afford. She says there are times it’s been harder to find that “little extra” to give, but the wonderful thing about a Gift in Will is “it doesn’t affect your bank balance today.”

She finds great joy and comfort knowing that what she leaves behind in the world will make others’ lives better. She says, “I know that one day I will make a massive  difference to many.”

The decision to leave a gift in her Will is a deeply personal one. Stroke Foundation is very close to Julia’s heart. When she was young, her Grandmother had a series of strokes, and one took the life of her beloved Grandfather. This inspired her to want to work at Stroke Foundation. Even though she is a staff member, she still believes in the dignity and respect given by Stroke Foundation.

She also told us organising her gift to Stroke Foundation in her Will was surprisingly stress free. She had a trusted solicitor who explained the process in plain words. She was “really emotional” signing the paperwork, looking back on how losing loved ones had led her to that bittersweet moment.

But despite the heartache, Julia couldn’t be happier about her choice to leave this incredible legacy and she sees it as her chance to change many lives in the future.

"Please do not think that leaving a gift in your Will is a reflection of the end. Simply put, when one door closes you are opening a door for another who needs it."
