VCDPA welcomes commitment to health promotion campaigns

October 18, 2018
The Victorian Chronic Disease Prevention Alliance (VCDPA) welcomes the Liberal Nationals commitment to long term investment in health promotion.

With many Victorians at risk of developing chronic disease, such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke, kidney disease and cancer, it is important to continue to raise awareness about preventable causes of these diseases.

Approximately one third of the burden of disease in Australia is preventable, due to modifiable risk factors. Some of these risk factors for chronic disease include overweight and obesity, physical inactivity, alcohol and an unhealthy diet.

Raising awareness about healthy living, and creating supportive environments, can assist the community to take actions that may lead to better health outcomes.

The VCDPA looks forward to working with the next Victorian Government to develop evidence based, long-term health promotion strategies to protect and promote the health of all Victorians.

The VCDPA comprises five peak health organisations: Heart Foundation, Cancer Council Victoria, Diabetes Victoria, Kidney Health Australia and the Stroke Foundation.
